SOEs re-imposed in St. Catherine, Clarendon, Westmoreland, St.James and parts of Kingston & St. Andrew.

A total of eight (8) States of Public Emergencies (SOEs) have been declared by the Government on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

The SOEs are in Clarendon, St. Catherine, St. Ann, St. James, Westmoreland, Hanover, Kingston & St. Andrew.

The announcement came as part of a morning press conference by the Prime Minister held at Jamaica House.

The SOEs include all of Kingston & St. Andrew, excluding St. Andrew North. Prior to Tuesday, the Prime Minister had said that he was watching to see if the crime levels would spike after the previous SOEs expired, to determine if he would declare new ones. He confirmed that since the end of the measures there has been an increase in lawlessness, public disorder, criminal activities and threat to property.

The PM also justified the new SOEs by pointing out that there is a projection of an increase in criminal activity during the Christmas season, and as such believes these measures are necessary at this time.
