This Just In!

Face-to-face classes resumed on Monday, May 6, 2024, after a freak storm tore off the roof of the Grade 2 block and mangled power lines. Subsequent to the storm, classes had been moved online but thankfully as of Monday, the students were able to get back into the classroom for some hands-on tutelage from their teachers.

Advocacy group demands that pay hike for politicians be rolled back.

The Advocates Network says members of the political directorate should follow the Prime Minister’s lead and roll back their unconscionable salary increases.

In a release to the media dated May 23, the Network says the government must roll back salary increases to politicians to no more than 20%, which is in line with the adjustment given to other public sector workers.

The Network says this roll back should stay in effect until an independent report detailing the performance of each MP and minister is released.

The Advocates Network is also demanding that an acceptable accountability framework to be included in phase one of the constitution reform process.

Advocates Network member, Robert Stephens, also asserted this framework is needed in order to help manage government affairs in the future.

The group adds that in the interest of fairness, morality and compassion, the government must immediately address the anomalies in the compensation packages of the rank-and-file civil servants and address outstanding issues such as those associated with public sector contract workers.
