Beryl gone. Thank yuh God. We pray for the other countries who now have to face her wrath.
Genkle peepul wah gwaan? Unnu arite?
Mi jus a check een.
After Category 4 hurricane Beryl pass and gone mi guh outside and assess di damage. It nuh too too bad. Thank God!
Now mi know seh some peepul meet it hard inna Beryl, serious damage to property. Not just houses or buildings but livestock also. I heard about some farmers losing chickens to the rains and wind.
My heartfelt sympathies mi peepul, but mi so glad that no major loss of life happened.
Condolences to the family of the young man who drowned during the storm and the lady who unfortunately loss her life because a tree in her yard fell on her. Condolences also extended to the family of the elderly gentleman who died after a walk of his home fell on him. We grieve with the families.
Sigh.
Very sad news, but peepul we have to give God thanks. Fi real man. It could have been worse. Yuh know seh the meteorological peepul dem did a seh di last time Jamaica get a direct hit from a major hurricane a almost 40 years ago? Yeh man a dat dem a seh. Since Wild Gilbert wi nuh get nuh direct impact. Yes we guh chru Dean, hurricane Sandy and hurricane Ivan, but dem deh one deh stay pon di coast line. Di eye never cross over Jamaica. So we did get wind and whol' heap a rain but not full hurricane winds and rain.
Beryl swush thru we and man, di wind dem did heavy, a category 4 suh yuh expect dem tings deh. But fi know seh di eye did just deh pon di sea, and we get so much preshah from di hurricane!! Imagine if she did seh mek she decide fi come siddung fully over we. What wud a happen??
The roof of a section of Munro College in the parish of St. Elizabeth completely torn off by hurricane Beryl. The parish was one of the worst hit during the storm. |
No man peepul we affi gi God thanks man.
Mi hear some peepul a seh how Jamaica's infrastructure well strong and build wid di best material. Mi nah seh no, but is not every boddi cyan afford certain building material fi properly secure dem home against storm.
Hey! A whol' heap a old building deh yah enuh. Nuff peepul cyaa afford fi duh renovation pon dem house. Some house buil' from 19-how-long and peepul affi just live inna dem. Dem might duh a one paint here or there, or dem fix one side of the building or change out a few zinc, but that is it.
Yow peepul, yuh know seh storm zinc expensive nowadays?! Mek mi seh it propah! Hex-pensiv! Nah lie. It ruff!
Mi sympatise wid di lady weh mi si pon the rooftop a try use board fi hol' dung har zinc dem. It nuh pretty peepul. And considering how Beryl deal wicked wid the Grenadines, we cyaa tek this ting lightly.
It's not no superior Jamaican infractructure and it's not no hill or mountain range cut down down Beryl wind intensity. If that were the case hurricane Gilbert wouldn't do so much damage.
Yes mi did born den. Mi was a pickney but mi still memba it. It was my first experience of a hurricane. And mi nuh forget it.
Suh who wah talk seh a infrastructure, gwaan duh yuh yapping. But sensible peepul know, based on the damage weh wi see across the island, it coulda worse. We know seh a God mercy. Nothing more, nothing less.
Laytah peepul. God keep unnu safe.
As more info comes in folks we will let you know.
